PROGRAMS: EAST LA MEN'S HEALTH CENTER Improving the health and well-being of Latino males by providing a culturally sensitive atmosphere where health is essential to the soul, body, and mind. The East LA Men's Health Center is dedicated to improving the health of Latino men and their families by delivering a variety of outpatient health care services in an environment that recognizes and respects cultural sensitivities. The Center offers free and low-cost primary and reproductive health care services for Latino men and their families without health insurance or regular access to primary health care. A qualified and caring bilingual medical staff, sensitive to Latino culture, provides confidential services in an outpatient clinical setting. The Center offers diagnosis and prevention of acute and chronic illness such as diabetes, hypertension, and other high-risk diseases; immunizations and vaccines; family planning and reproductive health services; and prevention, education, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The center also provides prevention and wellness education and referrals to specialized services and affiliated mental, health and social service providers. Every Friday night, the Teen Clinic offers adolescents an opportunity to talk about reproductive health with trained, certified counselors in a safe and friendly environment. Visitors to the center can learn how to avoid high-risk sexual activities, pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases. They can also receive contraceptives, HIV and STI testing, and counseling. Clinic hours: Funding for health care services comes from Family PACT, the County of Los Angeles, Title X Funding, sliding-scale fees paid by patients based on income, and MediCal. |
